Do I have the means to afford dental treatment?

Has this ever happened to you? You visit your dentist believing you only have a cavity or two when your dentist informs you of the bad news that a more costly treatment is necessary such as a root canal, a crown, or that several old fillings have deteriorated and need to be replaced….

Your first reaction can quite often be summed up by “What do I do? I didn’t anticipate such an expense!”.

First and foremost, don’t panic; consider the importance of healthy teeth and gums - of a healthy smile.

Secondly, don’t believe that you are the only one to not have been able to foresee such a situation. A patient in her late 20’s suffered from constant migraines and earaches for several very long months. Her family doctor referred her for a complete dental exam. The main cause of her pain and discomfort stemmed from dental problems and the treatment costs amounted to more than a few thousand dollars. A treatment plan was formulated with the patient which allowed the patient to finally find, once again, a quality of life that she had not had for a long time.

Studies continually show that your dental health directly impacts on many aspects of your general health such as heart disease, diabetes and respiratory problems. In addition, nutrition and the ability to eat healthy foods are very intimately associated with good health. Oral cancer exams and the ability to detect cancers in earlier stages can be lifesaving services which your dentist performs at little or no charge.

A healthy smile is invaluable and yet thousands of dollars are spent on things that are less meaningful. There is so much necessity and value in your dental visit and treatments. Can you really afford to neglect them? Don’t disregard your health and ability to enjoy a good quality of life.

At Centre Dentaire Laval-Ouest, our priority is you, our patient, and your dental health. We are sensitive to the cost of dental care and strive to make it as easy as possible for you to receive the care you deserve with our various treatment plan and payment options. We will design a treatment tailored to your individual needs and situation.

Your smile is forever yours.
It is a matter of what value you see in your smile,
your oral and general health.

  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • 1 1/2 lbs (675 g) skinless and boneless chicken breast halves, cut into cubes
  • 2 red bell peppers, seeded and each cut into 12 cubes
  • 12 large white button mushrooms, halved
  • The white and pale green part of green onions, cut into 16 2-inch (5-cm) pieces
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) canola oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 8 large wooden skewers

In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients. Season with salt and pepper.
Add the chicken and toss to coat. Set aside.

In a bowl, combine the vegetables and oil. Season with salt and pepper.
Preheat the grill, setting the burners on medium. Oil the grate.
Thread the chicken onto the skewers, alternating with the bell peppers and mushrooms. Thread the green onion sections at each end of the skewers to prevent the wood from burning.
Grill the skewers for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until the chicken is cooked through.

  • 1 untreated maple plank, about 15 x 6-inch (38 x 15-cm), for grilling
  • 3/4 lb (350 g) peeled large raw shrimp, with the tail
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) Cajun seasoning
  • Chopped fresh chives, to taste
  • Lime wedges, to taste

Soak the plank in water for at least 1 hour.

In a bowl, combine the shrimp, oil, and spices. Set aside.

Preheat the grill, setting the burners to medium. Place the plank on the grill and heat for about 10 minutes or until the wood is well marked. Flip the plank and place the shrimp on it. Close the lid and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until cooked. Sprinkle with chives and serve with grilled lime wedges. Serve as a hors d’oeuvres.

  • 1 cup (250 ml) frozen fruit of your choice (strawberry, mango, raspberry, etc.) or 4 bananas
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) honey or sugar

In a blender, purée all the ingredients until smooth.
Pour the smoothie into a tall glass and drink through a straw.

NOTE : For a more filling smoothie, add 30 to 45 ml (2 to 3 tablespoons) of silken tofu.
