It's simple - "Smile!"

We may or may not like the results, but studies have shown that your smile says a lot about you. Whether you're going on that first date, meeting new friends, a job interview, or a conference with your office manager or a potential client - your smile is the first thing people notice about you.

The minute you smile, you create that all important first impression. Within seconds, a person's subconscious has made a subliminal assessment about you, your personality.

A smile which is - simple, effortless, straightforward, but most of all, sincere - will speak volumes. It exudes warmth, conveys to people that you're likable, trustworthy, and worth getting to know. An honest smile can convey respect, patience, empathy as well as compassion.

How many people hide their smile or don't smile their fullest because they are self-conscious of their teeth? In a single day, there are so many opportunities to smile: your children, a new customer, an interesting sale,... Imagine the percentage of positive communications lost if "smiling" did not exist! Have you ever seen winners who were not smiling?

Your smile and career are without a doubt - connected. Most people, including potential employers or clients make instant judgments based on appearances. HR will always emphasize the importance of body language, and your smile is your most visible form of body language.

Employers and clients alike, no longer look only at qualifications; they also look for personality and energy. People who smile appear self-confident, relaxed, warm and friendly. They appear excited about their work, interested, and convey that they have the potential to bring a fresh look and insight to the company or client.

Smiling [like laughter] makes us feel better and when we feel good we exude that feeling in every aspects of our life both socially and professionally. Remember, smiling is the universal sign of happiness - Smiling is contagious.

Think about the people you most admire; that friend or co-worker who is always the center of everyone's attention. Notice anything about them? Could it be they are always smiling a huge beautiful, cheerful and happy-go-lucky smile?

Fun alternatives to candy

Halloween is just around the corner and for a lot of children that means candy and lots of it! Here are some suggestions and fun healthy treat alternatives for parents to help their trick-or-treaters avoid a mouthful of November cavities:

• Ration the candy over a few weeks.
  
  
• Let your child trade in Halloween candy for a video game, book, toy or trip to the movies.
  
  
• You can also have your child set aside half of the Halloween candy and donate it to an organization such as a women's shelter or a local soup kitchen.
  
  

Halloween Witch Brooms This tasty Halloween recipe is anything but cheesy! Ingredients: String cheese, Mini pretzel sticks, Chives Cut the string cheese in 2" strips. Insert a mini pretzel stick into one end of the string cheese. Carefully pull or cut the bottom half of the string cheese into strips. Tie on a chive to finish. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Roll-ups This is a good snack before the kids leave for trick or treating. Lay yellow cheese slices or spread cream cheese on sun-dried-tomato tortillas, then roll them up and cut them into 1-inch sections. Use a toothpick to secure each roll-up, topped with a sprig of cilantro or parsley.

Edible eyeballs Set out a platter of these creepy peepers and your Halloween party guests are bound to do a double-take. Simply slice carrots into 1-inch-thick chunks, top each with a blob of cream cheese and one half of a pitted black olive, and serve.

Halloween Mummy Lunch To make your own mummies, simply use a cookie cutter to shape your sandwich and slice up some mozzarella cheese strips for the "bandages." Add some nori pieces for the black spiders and facial features and you're in business! Butter, cheese and ham sandwiches, sliced peaches and a cherry tomato decorated with nori.
